Plasma Display Panel: Basic Notes

All people, I suppose, know and talk about Plasma television sets, but most of them have not any idea about their structure and their functioning principles.

STRUCTURE

In the below picture there is a PDP ( plasma display panel ) scheme :

LCD2USB is a open source/open hardware project. The goal of LCD2USB is to connect HD44780 based text LCD displays to various PCs via USB. LCD2USB was meant to be cheap and to be made of easily available parts. It is therefore based on the Atmel AVR Mega8 CPU and does not require any difficult to obtain parts like separate USB controllers and the like. The total cost (without display and pcb) are about 5 to 10 Euros. LCD2USB currently comes with a simple demo application that works under Linux, MacOS X and Windows.

I introduce a new Reference Project realized with a Renesas M16C microcontroller.

We are talking about a Remote Console able to visualize the informations from the serial, managed from keyboard.
Optimal in order to realize a SMS visual display unit on PC (as IperSMS)

Interesting for who wants to experiment with the micro Renesas M16C (16bit), in particular are available the routines in C for the keyboard, display and serial management

1.The target

How many times using a device you are thinking: How nice it would be to have more informations about the led that has 527 colors or it flashes in 6432 various ways but all equal ones. How many applications today are using a GSM module? Remote controls, remote activation commands etc. but thinking again why not to use it for sending and receiving SMS?
