Renesas Devcon 2008 Motor Control Demo

Download PDF version of the Article

Hi, name is Nilesh Suarjbhatiya, the marketing manager of Renesas technology. Here I have several demos for the motor control algorithm.
Here the first one is what we call a sensor less vacuum control demo. It is essentially a high end motor control algorithm. In this particular demo you can see this is a 110 v motor, you can change the speed and the direction of the motor by changing the potentiometer. Essentially this sensorless control algorithm, is a high end algorithm, it not only controls the efficiency, it also provides fast response. So if I change the speed it responds very quickly.
Here we have another motor control demo. Here it shows power of two new peripherals in a Renesas product. One is event leak controller, and the other one is peripheral mapping IO controller. In this demo, the PC here controls the application. Here it shows the CPU usage it takes to control the staple motor. Now I can change the event link controller peripheral on and off, when I turn it off, the CPU usage tends to go down. What it shows is that, when you turn the peripheral on your CPU by now does not have to work as hard and your CPU usage goes down.
All of these algorithms, Renesas provides algorithm for free. We also provide lot of software and hardware reference designs on our website. So, although this is a very complex algorithm you can simplify the development using our freely available software and hardware tools.
Here I have a motor control demo. This particular demo shows how our RAC based motor control came. This is our complete all in parts motor control. It comes with a 24V DC motor and the modem control board. It also comes with a GUI software which actually shows the real time information that actually pertains to the motor. You can control the speed of the motor by turning on and off, and you can change some parameters, and it allows you to control the motor, it always you to experiment the motor. It also comes with a debugger onboard. You can use this debugger to develop the application and then you can write your own code.
The second demo I want to show you is this AC Induction motor demo. You see, this induction motor demo controls a 110V AC motor and it changes the speed of the motor using the potentiometer. This is a very low cost motor control algorithm and very easy to implement.
Renesas provides the software code and the hardware design for this and this complete VLDC kit, so you can download this code from America.renesas.com and you can develop your own code or you can experiment your own motor control algorithm.
Thank You.
