GCubiks - the new 3D glasses
GCubiks (the new 3D Glasses) - what they are?
The 10 centimeter (3.9 inch) cube, called a gCubik, could be used to see far away relatives or by businesses and schools to show products and material. The cube is made out of panels that have lenses on liquid crystal displays.
Similar devices on the market currently require 3D glasses and can only be viewed from a front panel. GCubiks can be viewed from any of three sides, giving different perspective from varied angles. 3D glasses are not required with Gcubiks. This device is a revolutionary in engineering design in nearly all of its attributes, and would have been considered a pipe dream a decade ago.
Researchers are in the prototype stage of making gCubiks. At this point making three-dimensional still pictures that would enable people to essentially have holograms of art or of their loved ones is being realized; in later stages movable images and ‘vocal sounds’ coming from them will be attempted. Researchers hope to allow images to move in real time in the near future as they increase the functionality of the device in every way possible. Many other advances can be made as the team works towards the overall idea of a portable hologram with synced audio. Shunsuke Yoshida, a researcher at Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology said “the ultimate image we have in mind is having a small person in your palm.” Yoshida confirmed the device can make a still image and that the team was currently focusing on the advancements necessary for real-time motion.
The research team imagines within the next three years the picture quality will be improved and the image could be viewed from all six sides of the cube. Currently cords are keeping three of the sides from being displayed. In three years Yoshida feels the cubes could be put to their practical uses. The technology at that time should be advanced well enough that more functions are included in addition to the device being portable enough to warrant commercial use.The research team also wants to give vocal sounds to 3D images so that there would be a capability of having a speaking person. The product has been shown in Asian countries and was shown in Los Angeles in the United States during the SIGGRAPH convention.

It's just a brand name for a product. A cubic is a "1x1x1" object. So they copied the 3D concept and named it gcubik "glasses 3D (cubic)".
