Freescale i.MX51 Family of Applications Processors
Hi my name is Rajesh Gopi and I am the Software Applications Manager for the I.MX applications processing division at Freescale Semiconductor. iMX51 is a codex A8 based ARMS system on chip some of the key features include a core frequency of 800 MHz,200 MHz of DDR2,integrate 2-D and 3-D graphics supporting open BG 1.1, OPENGL ES 2.0, OPENGL ES 1.1, the hardware integrated video process unit that supports the wide range of video codex both for encoding and decoding and a very flexible image processing unit. The I.MX51 evaluation kit includes the evaluation board, a power supply, Ethernet, USB and UART cables and 2 different SD Cards 1. Window CE6.O image and other with the Linux image running UBUNTU 9.04. everything you need to getup and running quickly.
The board is packed with features including 512 MB DDR2 memory, three different USB ports and Ethernet interface, a USB to SATA bridge, a UART port,DVI display port, and LVDSI display port, Freescale’s audio codec and NAND connector, 4MB serial NOR flash and two slots for MMC/SD one of which we will use in the upcoming demo as the boot interface. The board also the expansion connectors one to hook up a display panel like this WVGA panel and another to hook up a expansion board like this one which has a key pad and camera module.
The power management chip used on the evaluation board is a Freescale MC13892 which supports battery trickle charging and interfaces with the I.MX51’s dynamic voltage and frequencies capabilities. The PMIC also provides multi voltage rail outputs and supply all the voltages that the I.MX51 needs. The PMICS also provides additional voltage outputs that are needed by the system. The PMIC is controlled through the serial port of the I.MX51. The PMIC also integrates and resistive touchscreen interface and accepts a backup console battery for the realtime clock to support the I.MX evaluation board Freescale has created all the software boot supports package available at no cost.lets take a look at the I.MX51 in action, here we are running a 3-D application on WIN CE6.0 this is an OpenGL ES2.0 based pinball demo in this example – we have an extra 264 video clip running on to UBUNTU platform and finally this is the I.MX51 running the donut Android operating system Freescale has created a complete ecosystem to enable you to build exciting products based on our I.MX51 platform coupled with your excellent online support and free reference material including, schematic, layouts file, manuals and BSP documentation. You have everything you need to develop your designs quickly and effectively.
We hope you have enjoyed this video and invites you to export all the possibilities of Freescale I.MX product family.
