Given the specific needs in terms of knowledge transference and IP protection, very specific associations have sprung up to provide ongoing education and support to the electronics industry. In particular, for the PCB world, there are few very prestigious meetings that combine design, manufacture and marketing tools for the entire industry.
Among some of the largest trade groups representing not only the PCB world but the entire spectrum of the electronics industry is IPC (Association Connecting Electronics Industries). Its constituency includes print circuit designers, manufactures, OEMs, and suppliers of materials and equipment to those industries.

Similarly the Electronic Circuits World Congress draws a significant audience from all areas of PCB design and manufacture to Shanghai, China.

Participation on a large exhibition or conference will give a designer the opportunity to see the latest trends on materials, equipment, software and other advances on PCB layout, manufacture and resources. Then if interested in Design specific conferences, there is a good chance you'll see what you need in in the DesignCon conference

Some other shows that draw a large crowd in the States is the Semicon series. These conferences are concentrated around the manufacturing and OEM centers in Japan, Korea, China, Europe and NorthAmerica. They have an annual meeting for the entire area but in general is best to assist the specific regional meeting.
