TI OMAP 3430- Handle HD Video for Smartphones
By DebasisDas May 29th, 2009
|
Rumored Video is everywhere. You would like to see HD video at that. So why not on the mobile device we like to carry everywhere. Compressed video processing takes a lot of processing power. on Phones we already have a lot of functions being managed by processors, yet we need long time between charges. What processors can handle all that! OMAP 3430 from TI is reputed to be one such gadget. Palm Pre already uses it, so does models of Sony Ericsson SmartPhones. Apple is rumored to be considering it for the next upgrade. So what is it like!! |
Implement Advanced Functions in JTAG
By DebasisDas Apr 17th, 2009
|
With complex boards these days it is necessary to test printed circuit boards after manufacture. Boundary scan as standardized by JTAG is a nice way to do that. The article looks at some important concepts and how to manage some complex testing situations. |

MSP430 Fits Precision Mixed Signal Designs Well
By DebasisDas Feb 10th, 2009
|
The MSP430 microcontroller with its 16 bit RISC processor, built-in hardware multiplier, lot of sophisticated analog peripherals on chip is well suited for precision instrumentation and control systems. A set of serial communication resources and a well designed interrupt system support a fairly complex design easily. Here's a look at key characteristics of these resources and their implications. |

Planning for migration to Embedded Linux
By DebasisDas Jan 21st, 2009
|
The most common issues on Embedded Linux are similar to issues in a standard Linux distribution. These range from administration/management issues (which packages to install, setting the right build options, etc.) to run-time issues (limited disk/swap space due to improper allocation; not enough memory – still very much an issue for an Embedded Linux system). |

MSP 430 – The Ultra Low Power Microcontroller
By DebasisDas Jan 20th, 2009
|
Embedded system designers need low power devices in general. It is a prime consideration for device selection for battery powered devices. Many mixed signal systems, real time instrumentation in particular, fall into this category. Texas Instrument's MSP 430 family of microcontrollers (datasheet) is positioned precisely at this segment. |
