As I mentioned in another article, ARM Cortex-M3 is not compatible with ARM7TDMI in interrupt, ISA, bus structure and JTAG protocol (SWD). You have to upgrade ARM7TDMI tools to support Cortex-M3 microcontrollers. After a small research, I summarize following tool related information for your reference.

Hello, my name is Robert DeOliveira. I’m the IAR Systems global account manager. I’m here to talk to you today about IAR, what we do and what solutions we provide for Freescale controller continuum.

After merging the code from different projects, some of which use open source compilers, I can build my own project with GCC for AVR. The first project consumes 12KB ROM and 1K RAM. I believe the RAM size can be reduced after some optimization. However AVR offers big enough memory size than my expectation. Now I am adding the OTA (Over-the-Air) command parser to the project.
