Boards running Linux
The FOX Board is shipped with a ready to run image of Linux. The FOX Board SDK is an Open Source collection of programs useful to develop applications, install device drivers and recompile the whole Linux kernel to run on the FOX Board. Is is strongly based on the the standard SDK supplied by Axis and an impressive number of patches, applications and utilities added by John Crispin and a lot of others enthusiast FOX Board developers. The FOX Board SDK is available only for the Linux operating system. Fox board comes also with an add on board providing a fully user programmable ACTEL FPGA for custom applications.

Forget this board
Hi Emmanuele,
you forgot to mention this (recent) board: the APF27 of Armadeus Systems (http://www.armadeus.com/english/products-processor_boards-apf27.html).
It is based on a Freescale's i.XM27 at 400Mhz and a Xilinx's Spartan3A FPGA (+ mobile DDR-RAM and NAND FLASH). This motherboard can be plugged on your custom system or on Armadeus's development boards (http://www.armadeus.com/english/products-development_boards-apf27_dev.html).
Linux SDK is open and freely available, and firmware development is eased thanks to Xilinx ISE free tools.
