Be Aware of the China Export mark !!!
In a recent case, we as Europeans have become used to the notion that if products such as washing machines or flip arms are bought just in a European store, then they’re guaranteed to be safe. They will sell, they fireproof and they will not cause a fire in our homes. The reason for this assumption is that these products correspond to EU standards because they carry this CE mark. This mark declares European confirmed, approved in the production. During a workshop about the wood working industrialized week in Strasbourg I discovered another marking that symbolizes something completely different. This marking said that the product was produced in China. I think it is no coincidence that these markings are so similar that it is difficult to differentiate between the two. This is aggressive way to confuse European consumers. Therefore, I sent a question to the commission about these non identical marks. In addition, I discovered that the European mark is not registered. The dilemma is if we can fight against placing products with these Chinese marking on the European markets.

Looks like a joke.
Here is the answer given by Mr Verheugen on behalf of the Commission :

china's products are cheap
china's products are cheap but not of much trust
Typical Prejudice
Just like Japanese and Korean, Chinese becomes the world manufacturing center after these countries. Many well-known products are made in China, including iPod, HTC/Google G1 phone, and more. It is a wise business consideration. If Chinese can only make good yet expensive products, these businessmen will move production to Vietnam, aren't they?
CE mark should be CE mark, anyway.
Chinese made a lot of "Bandit" mobile phone with MediaTek chipset and kills many mobile manufucturers. Even Motorola starts to blame it.
The biggest problem in China is lack of proper IP protection. People, including engineers who are trying to design good product have to face to the price competition because copyright and patent are not respected here. As a result, people have to make things cheaper. It is government's problem. In fact, some (US & European) semiconductors manufactuers also dump less qualified silicons to China without testing or with great defect. They consider Chinese market a great dustbin. Some products equipped with these defect chips are shipped back to Europe by world trading. Don't push me to reveal their names and events in detail. However, I can tell they are well-known European manufactuers, which you guys see them everyday, everywhere.
In order to protect copyright and patent, recently some smart guys "invented" some methods to make copyright lawsuit a profitable business, they even setup a ecosystem with lawyers and public notary offices. A single franchisees can make money about 10M RMB (1.5MUSD) for one city (like Shenzhen) for one year. It is a remarkable wealth for anyone. Since the business is so profitable, fighting pirate video is much more profitable than making or playing pirate video, many people applied to join by selling house and stock shares. It is a good practice to protect IP in China.
There are many one-time businessman in China, especially in Shenzhen. They invest in the electronics products, like mobile phone, PMP, netbook to make a quick money. If the profit goes down, they withdraw for next product. As a result, there is no aftersales service and quality at all. However, it is encourages and connived by local government.
My point is, since many products are made in China. There are good ones, there are bad ones. Try to avoid "cheap" ones. Meanwhile, things are changing as well.
