This article will show the capability of the MAX15026 which is a DC-DC synchronous step down controller that is low-cost and capable of driving external MOSFETs to produce an output current of up to 25A.

The MAX15026 is an exceptionally flexible device that works over a broad, input range of 4.5V to 28V, making it useful in 5V or 12V bus applications and it integrates a ±1% precise voltage reference to provide an accurate output voltage from 0.6V to 85% of the input voltage with a ±1% Accurate Voltage Reference.

More over, this device permits the designers to regulate the switching frequency which is 200kHz to 2MHz and current perimeter to increase the effectiveness of their designs for space, cost and performance. It also has a lossless, cycle-by-cycle Valley Mode Current Limit with adjustable, temperature compensated threshold with sink mode current limit protection.

It also offers an outstanding performance and is ideal for high dependability applications such as networking, telecommunication and server equipment. At the same time as it is priced adequate low to be used in set top box and power module applications. Using cycle by cycle no loss current logic to get rid of the external sense resistor and minimize power loss. Other features include an analog-enable input, internal boost diode, soft electronic start and a power indicator. Without discharging the output, the device also let monotonic startup into a pre-biased bus, Hiccup-Mode Short-Circuit Protection and thermal shutdown.

The unit is offered in a thermally enhanced, 3mm x 3mm, 14-pin TDFN package, and is fully specified over the extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. An evaluation kit is available for designers, engineers and students to speed circuit designs. Its application includes LCD TV Secondary Supplies, DSP Power Supplies, Power Modules, Switches/Routers, Set-Top Boxes and Points-of-Load Regulators.
